AFC Fitness is part of a special task force with the National Fitness Council in collaboration with the U.S. Surgeon General, Jerome Adams and the CDC, to establish re-opening procedures and health standards for fitness centers during COVID-19. We are happy to announce that our plan is now approved by the CDC. This plan raises cleaning and disinfecting to a whole new level.
Disinfection and Cleaning
We’re adding multiple deep-cleaning and disinfecting cycles during the day and overnight. We’re also retraining our cleaning team and requiring all of our staff to participate in the new cleaning guidelines.
Disinfecting standards have been raised. We’ll be using medical-grade disinfectants which are CDC approved, effective against COVID 19 and safe for everyone.
Electrostatic Disinfectant Sprayers
We’ve added the latest technology in disinfection – electrostatic sprayers, the kind used in hospitals. Our staff will use them to effectively disinfect common areas and equipment.
Equipment and Studios
Cleaning staff will be disinfecting cardio, strength and group fitness equipment between use. But we need your help! Please make sure to see our new Clean and Safe guidelines to see how and where you can pitch in.
Common Areas in the Club
Surfaces that are commonly contacted will be disinfected with a specific schedule and additionally as needed.
We’ve Gone Touchless
Faucets, soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers are now touchless.
More touchless hand sanitizer dispensers have been added.
Automatic Entry Doors
The entryway door at the Bala club was completely remodeled with an automatic door during the recent renovation. The entryway at the Feasterville location will also be replaced with an automatic door.
Disinfectant Wipes/Staff Disinfectant Sprayers
Disinfectant wipes and sprays will be available throughout the club. Members will be asked to disinfectant equipment before and after use in addition to our own cleaning procedures. Our disinfectant products are proven to kill 99.999% of germs (including viruses, bacteria, & fungi).
Additional hand sanitizer stations have been added throughout the club. Members will be asked to use hand sanitizer when entering the club and throughout their visit. The hand sanitizer solution kills up to 99.9% of germs and includes at least 60% ethyl alcohol, the CDC’s guidelines, with added Aloe Vera.

Club Capacity and Separation
AFC Fitness has the advantage of having two huge facilities, so members can spread out in the clubs. With Bala being 110,000 square feet and Feasterville 88,000 square feet, we have plenty of space for everyone to feel comfortable. We will be monitoring club capacity and ask members to separate during high attendance times, if needed.
Face coverings are required at all times throughout the facility.
Front Desk Shields
It’s all about protection for members and staff. Our new plexiglass shields are designed to provide a protective layer between individuals and front desk staff.
Physical Distancing Markers and Signs
Physical distancing signs will show appropriate spacing in class studios and in the cardio areas. Signs will be placed throughout the club reminding people about new disinfecting procedures and to practice physical distancing (Clean and Safe Guidelines). We need everyone’s help to make this work; always be safe and courteous to those around you.
Members or staff experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, but who have not tested positive, are required to not visit the club until 14 days after symptoms are gone.
Touchless thermometers will be used to check body temperatures of staff at the start of their shift. In accordance with CDC guidelines, individuals with a body temperature above 100.4 degrees will be not be permitted into the club.
We will limit capacity for all Group fitness classes to ensure physical distancing.
Equipment will be organized to allow for physical distancing. Time limits may be imposed if necessary. Members will need to supply their own basketballs and their own mat for all classes that require them.
Towel Service (Bala ONLY)
For the safety of our staff our Towel Service in Bala Cynwyd will not be available. Please be sure to bring your own shower/workout towels. Towels will be available at the front desk for purchase.
Lockers will be sanitized by our cleaning staff. Additionally, disinfectant spray and wipes will be provided so members can also clean out lockers.
