Types of Yoga Classes

With so many different types of yoga classes at AFC Fitness, there’s a yoga discipline for everyone. Practiced in our Philadelphia area yoga studios, yoga students of every age can choose from a variety of classes designed to help you move, stretch, strengthen, tone, unwind, and be mindful. Call your AFC Fitness club or visit our gym locations page to get the current schedule of yoga classes offered at any our three health club locations. Types of yoga classes:

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga concentrates on connecting movement with breath, smoothly flowing from one yoga pose to the next. With basic and advanced movements taught by the instructor, this class is great for those who are looking to build overall strength and stamina.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is slower and much more meditative than traditional yoga which also makes it a great introductory practice for new yogis. Yin Yoga develops your posture, wider ranges of motion and an increased flow of energy that is achievable by focusing on the deeper tissues of the body.  A Yin Yoga class will bring you a whole new level of relaxation.

YinYasa Flow Yoga

The perfect blend of Yin and Yang, YinYasa Flow Yoga is a combination of Vinyasa and Yin Yoga practices weaved together to create a balance of body, mind, strength, flexibility, and relaxation.

YinYasa Flow Yoga starts with a soft vinyasa style and gradually builds to create internal heat and a connection with breath and movement, followed by a transition to a more meditative and relaxed Yin style.

Yoga-Pilates Fusion

Pairing yoga with other exercise practices like Pilates lets you burn more calories than yoga alone, while still getting the overall mind and body benefits of the ancient yoga practice. Through a variety of yoga poses, ballet moves, and Pilates exercises, you will tone and strengthen the entire body. Yoga-Pilates Fusion classes end with relaxation exercises and a relieving stretch to lengthen the muscles and rejuvenate the body and mind.

Power Flow Yoga

Like Yoga-Pilates Fusion, Power Flow Yoga classes are more active than a typical yoga class with an importance on moving and getting your heart rate up. Cardio is a key element of Power Flow Yoga.

Chair Yoga

Not everyone can get up and down off the floor easily making traditional yoga classes difficult for many. If you have any health issues, Chair Yoga is the ideal class for you to try. With the help of a chair anyone can practice yoga and experience the same benefits of increased circulation, balance, flexibility, mobility and strength. Chair Yoga is incredibly relaxing in part because of the heavy emphasis on breathing techniques and relaxation.

All-level Yoga

All-level Yoga has modified moves and sets a pace of participants young and old, experienced and new to Yoga, and for the ones that are just starting out to exercise, too. It is idea for “all-levels”, hence the name.  What stays the same is the promise of yoga – to strengthen, elongate, unwind, and be mindful.

Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga class is geared toward those who are new to yoga, those who want to deepen their knowledge of basic yoga and is wonderful for people of all ages and stages, including those suffering from arthritis. Class is a gently flowing style of postures and breathing exercises to improve health and peace of mind.

Yoga Sculpt

Incorporating weights and bursts of cardio sessions, during a sculpt class you’ll work on arms, strengthening your core muscles, legs, and short high intensity movements to help push your limits. Traditional yoga poses are also performed with more energy.

Outside Yoga

Although Yoga studios at AFC Fitness are specially designed for mind and body exercises, when practicing yoga outside, the feeling of the ground under your hands and the warmth of the sun on your back can help you feel more mindful and in the moment. As you turn your yoga pose and face the sky, you’ll see clouds passing by and trees moving in the wind, helping you engage with the world and nature on a deeper level.

Silver Sneakers® Yoga

Silver Sneakers® Yoga is designed specifically for the older adult. A combination of three Yoga styles are incorporated into this class to create a harmony of movement for the whole body. Chair support is offered to safely practice a variety of poses designed to increase balance, flexibility, and range of movement. Silver Sneakers® Yoga uses restorative breathing to enhance flow and energy. Options are a constant. There is no floor/mat work.
